Half day walking tour
Explore the mysterious ruins at Eski Hilvan. The fortified hilltop city has never been excavated, and many questions remain unanswered. Visit the site, and see for yourself which pieces of the archaeological puzzle are missing. Walk on across country to the shrine of Haci Omer. There is no doubt that this hill predates Islam as a place of worship, and that many of the practices carried on today actually reflect Yezidi rather than Islamic beliefs. Finally, should the movement of tribes permit, visit a nomadic camp, and learn about their fascinating life style. The walk takes around 3 to 4 hours, over gently rolling countryside.
Half day village explorer
Follow the same route as the walking tour but by private vehicle. A visit to the remote village of Golli is included, where the lack of schooling facilities, poor roads, and lack of sanitation present an altogether different picture to that seen at Yuvacali. The village, however, is picturesque and the foundations of an Armenian church are still clearly visible in the village.
Half day off the beaten track tour
Spend half a day in the ancient town of Siverek and the surrounding Karacadag (Mount Karaca) area, one of the remotest and least-developed areas in Turkey. Visit the local market for great photo opportunities – not a tourist or a t-shirt in sight! Then move on to see the mountain tribes, many of whom are nomadic. Visit a nomadic family in their tent and join them for tea before returning to Siverek’s ancient bazaar area, famed for its textiles.
