FULL DAY SANLIURFA
Shop in ancient bazaars, feed the sacred fish, climb the citadel, pay homage at the birth place of the Biblical Abraham. Sanliurfa is a Turkish city soaked in the atmosphere of the Middle East. Join the hustle and bustle of the bazaar area as you hear Kurdish and Arabic being shouted all around. Marvel at the wealth of fabrics on offer, see the tailors running up orders as they sit in the open air, watch the blacksmith at work, and wonder at the amount of gold for sale. Turkey doesn't have another city like it.
FULL DAY HARRAN
Harran appears in the Bible as the place where Abraham settled on his way to Canaan. It is one of the oldest continually inhabited places on the earth, home to the first ever university, and one of only three places in the world where you can see the distinctive mud-brick beehive architecture. Sip tea in the courtyard of a 200-year old beehive house, meet the family, and visit the ancient castle
FULL DAY MOUNT NEMRUT
King Antiochus of Commagene decided nearly 2,000 years ago to make himself immortal. He had his tomb built atop a 7,000 foot mountain and flanked it with super sized statues of himself and the Gods (each 30 feet high). Cross the Euphrates River by ferry before climbing to the breath-taking site of his tomb, set in the stunning Mount Nemrut National Park.
FULL DAY ANCIENT TEMPLES
Visit four religious sites. At Gobekli Tepe you will be astounded by the oldest religious monument uncovered in the world to date. Gobekli Tepe was a center of religious worship 11,500 years ago. It has been suggested by researchers at the Smithsonian Institute that this may have been the original site of the Garden of Eden. It is likely that this is where agriculture originated and people first became settled. The visit to Gobekli Tepe is followed by a stop at the shrines of Job and Jethro, before completing the day by visiting the remote moon-worshipping center at picturesque Sogmatar. It is believed that the pagan rite of worshipping the planets, and especially the moon god Sin, continued in the area up until the 1950s
FULL DAY DIYARBAKIR
Situated on the Tigris, the city of Diyarbakir, surrounded by massive basalt walls dating from antiquity, is home to a largely Kurdish population. The walls form a virtually intact 3 and a half mile circle around the old city. Explore the maze of streets within the walls, home to ancient churches and fine examples of traditional Diyarbakir family homes, some of which are open to the public as museums.
