Four Day Tour
Nomad Tours Turkey four day tour, to view prices click the tour link from the prices menu.
Rather than trek out every day to return to your village accommodation every night, why not use the village as your starting point for a truly original experience, as you explore Turkey’s southeast in full with this four day tour.
Accommodation is again basic, but no less exciting for that. A variety of types of accommodation is used from the mud brick beehive houses at Harran, to basic hotels, and Assyrian built stone houses. Following the principles of responsible travel, home stays are used in preference to hotels wherever possible
DAY 1
Leave your village accommodation for an early start and travel to the city of Sanliurfa to spend several hours in its ancient bazaar area, visiting the sacred pools, and exploring the citadel. Afternoon involves a visit to the ancient temple at Gobekli Tepe, finally driving into Harran for the overnight stay with a family in a beehive house.
DAY 2
Another early start sees you crossing rough terrain as you head out to the shrine of Jethro and the moon-worshipping centre of Sogmatar. A stop for lunch in the small town of Viransehir is included before driving on to Mardin where the night is spent in either a home stay or a basic hotel.
DAY 3
After breakfast in Mardin, a short drive brings you to the smaller town of Midyat, which contains excellent examples of stone architecture, both houses and churches. The narrow streets of the old quarter provide great photo opportunities. Lunch is taken in Hasankeyf, an ancient crossing point on the Tigris River, and home to cave dwellings as well as intricately tiled Islamic tombs. The rest of the day is spent at leisure in Hasankeyf, before passing the night in a basic hotel.
DAY 4
A few hours’ drive, and you arrive in the teeming city of Diyarbakir to explore its old city and basalt walls. Lunch in Diyarbakir is followed by a trip across the Karaca Mountains which remain remote from the modern world and are home to many nomadic tribes. We join a nomad family in their tent for tea, and finally driving out of Karaca Mountains, arrive at the town of Siverek which has a small bazaar area famed for its textiles. Transfer onwards back to the village starting point takes just under an hour from here.
